Baby Steps: How To Start Getting Into Shape

Posted on: 30 December 2018

A big mistake is to think that you can go from couch potato to marathon running without any effort. It can be daunting to see how far some people can run, or how much they can lift, or how great they look in a swimsuit. Not just daunting, but discouraging. It is almost enough to prevent one from wanting to even get started exercising when you look at how far you will have to go. This is one of the big reasons that people tend to fail when it comes to getting into shape; they see how much work is to be done and simply give up. However, that's entirely avoidable as long as you approach fitness with baby steps. Start small and work your way into shape. Here's a selection of things to incorporate that will help you on your road to health.

Take A Fitness Class

Part of the difficulty of exercising is when you're not sure about what exactly to do. If you're not someone who has spent time lifting weights or doing cardio or researching the different exercise methods, then it can be very hard to get started. You won't know what sort of exercise to do or even how to do it. If you don't properly do the the exercise, then you might get injured. Additionally, it can be hard to be motivated to exercise if you are exercising alone. This is why you should look into taking fitness classes. When you take one of these classes, you will have an instructor who will both motivate you as well as show you the proper way of how to execute the movements. Look into taking a beginner's fitness class and schedule it for every week, preferably several times a week, so that you maintain in good health.

Track Your Calories

You won't ever be able to get into shape if you don't track what you eat. It can be very hard to overdo it on calories if you're not careful. Unless you're very mindful about each and every thing you eat throughout the day, you can easily blow through your diet. One of the best ways to do this is to get an app that will keep track of all of your calories. It's very easy to do; all you have to do is install this app on your phone and you can easily enter in your food. You can simply pick a food, select it, and you will get a graphical representation of not only your calories remaining for the day (provided you enter in a cap for the day) but a good breakdown of the protein, fat, and carbs.
